Telangana Cabinet Decides to pass assembly resolution against CAA
The Citizenship Amendment Act says, citizenship will be provided to refugees from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, if the refugees from six minority communities lived in India for 6 years and entered the country by 31st Dec 2014. The Act has been condemned by State cabinets and communities. There were protests against the act.
The Telangana Cabinet meeting was held on 16th Feb 2020 chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Chief Minister Rao and the cabinet members of the Telangana Government have decided to yearn the Centre to annul the changes made to the Citizenship Act last year.
“The state cabinet supported the Centre in the Kashmir Issue. But CAA Act infracts the constitution and thereby will jeopardies secularism as anticipated in the constitution’ said Chief Minister Rao while speaking about the decision to annul the amendments. Also, TRS and AIMIM formed the majority in Great Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) earlier this month which has adopted a resolution against CAA.
Finally, Telangana Cabinet joined hands with state assemblies Kerala, Punjab, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to annul CAA Amendments. Following this, the cabinet Appeals to the Union Government not to discriminate based on the religion for the Indian Citizenship.
