The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting every person and every organization differently. When daily wage earners are struggling to find food and shelter, the middle class people are doing odd jobs to feed families, businesses have no way out and are surviving on savings, airlines are filing for bankruptcy. The two biggest sources of entertainment for India include films and cricket. While the cinema theatres are closed, the film releases are getting postponed and the summer which is spent watching our favourite teams in the IPL matches is spent watching is spent being stuck at homes.

The T20 world cup which happens once in every 4 yearsand which was supposed to happen in October 2020 is most likely being postponed to 2022. This is all going to be decided in the ICC meeting which is scheduled for tomorrow i.e. 28th May 2020.

The T20 world cup which was first going to be postponed to February 2021 is now more likely to be pushed to 2022 as India is already hosting a world cup in October 2021. Since the whole market situation is down, the organizers and stake holders won’t be able to handle the pressure of 2 world cups in the same year. The ICC meeting will also decide on the future of world cricket by road mapping a tentative blue print of the upcoming matches. The world cup which was supposed to be hosted by India in 2020 will now be hosted by Australia in 2022.

The ICC will also decide of the IPL matches which were postponed from April 2020 to later date. IPL is another big tournament which happens every year in the summers, but was postponed because of the current coronavirus pandemic. The BCCI and other broadcasters don’t want to take any impulsive decision and jump the gun with the IPL scenario. They are going to closely monitor the current situation as IPL already involves a lot of travel for the team, crew and the other personnel. They are going to personally monitor the situation with the government before finalizing on any dates.

There are already talks of bilateral cricket series happening between India and Australia in the month of October. The team is going to travel to Australia 14 days in advance for the Australian series as per the quarantine norms given by the Australian government. Both the presidents Saurav Ganguly and Kevin Roberts are in talks regarding the travel situation.
