Bangladesh had to take a big blow ahead of India series. Bangladesh Test and T20 Captain Shakib Al Hasan been banned from all cricket matches for two years(one year suspended) for not reporting the corrupt approaches made to him. International Cricket Council(ICC) has taken the decision after Shakib has accepted three charges of breaching the ICC Anti-corruption code. ICC released a detail report in which it has mentioned that Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has admitted his failure in reporting corrupt approaches made to him.
Under the Provisions of ICC Code, Shakib al Hasan chose to admit the charges and agreed on the sanction with the ICC in Lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing, his statement said ” I am Obviously extremely sad to have been banned from the game I love, but I completely accept my sanction for not reporting the approaches. The ICC ACU is reliant on players to play a central part in the fight against corruption and I didn’t do my duty in this stance” Shakib Al Hasan Was quoted as saying in an ICC release.
” Like the majority of players and fans around the world, I want cricket to be corruption free sport and I am looking forward to working with the ICC ACU team to support their education program and ensure young players don’t make the same mistake I did ” Quoted the Bangladeshi Cricketer.
As per ICC, Shakib Al Hasan failed to report the corrupt approaches during Bangladesh’s Tri-series with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Jan 2018 as well as IPL in the same year. ICC Said that Shakib has failed to report the second approach with respect to the Tri-Series and also failed to disclose the full details to ACU of any approaches he received to engage in corrupt conduct -with respect to an IPL 2018 match between SRH v Kings Xl Punjab on April 2018.
