Rajinikanth donates 50 Lakhs to Film Industry Workers Suffering Losses Due to Coronavirus
Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) Union workers are under shutdown placing them under financial troubles. Superstar Rajanikanth has donated 50 lakhs to FEFSI, aiding daily wage workers.
“50 lakh rupees donated by @rajinikanth sir to buy rice bags for nearly 15,000 registered #FEFSI workers. Most of them are daily wage laborers. Love and respect sir.” said South Indian movie tracker Prashanth Rangaswamy in a Twitter post. Vijay Sethupathi has also donated Rs 10 lakh to FEFSI workers. Several other top stars like Suriya, Karthi, and many filmmakers have come forward too. Sivakumar, Suriya, and Karthi jointly donated Rs 10 lakh, actor Sivakarthikeyan donated Rs 10 lakh, Parthipan, Prakash Raj and Mano Bala too have provided 250, 150, and 10 bags of rice weighing 25 kg each respectively. These turn of events come after FEFSI President RK Selvamani on Monday appealed the film fraternity to take steps and help financially support the daily workers whose livelihood is impacted due to the film shut down.
Meanwhile, due to the lockdown, the shooting of Rajinikanth’s ‘Annaatthe’ being directed by Siruthai Siva, produced by Sun Pictures, and expected to be released in Diwali 2020 has been suspended. Tamil Nadu government also issued the notice of theatre and mall shutdowns till March 31. Shootings for various Tamil films have also been suspended, a decision that has been impacting thousands of daily wage earners dependent on the industry. The state of Tamil Nadu has so far recorded 15 positive cases of coronavirus out of which one person has been discharged. The Tamil Nadu government has also issued a prohibitory order under Sec 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to lock down the state for a week from 6 PM on Tuesday.
