Mani Ratnam set to enter OTT platform with his dream project Ponniyin Selvan
Our talented, versatile and favorite director Mani Ratnam started shooting his dream project Ponniyin Selvan in the last quarter of 2019. He has completed about forty percent of the movie in the forest locations of Thailand. The dream film is set to star Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Trisha. However, the schedule of the movie is now disturbed due to the pandemic and then the lockdown.
The project is star-studded and has hundreds of extras and crews, the movie is likely to be delayed for at least six or more months. In this gap, the director is planning to move to another project. Sources say that this movie could be a sequel of the 1992 release Roja, which has Aravind Swamy and Madhubala in the lead. Some other sources say it could altogether be an entirely new film. There is no clear consensus on this yet.
As of now, the new news is that director Mani Ratnam has decided to enter the OTT platform and is planning to produce a web series. The web series will have nine short stories and is based on the navarasas in Indian mythology. He is said to be the creative director and producer, while the nine short stories will have nine different directors.
Mani Ratnam is expected to launch it on Amazon Prime. The icing on the cake is that the money generated from this series will go to helping the workers of the film industry, the ones who have lost their livelihood because of the lockdown. We are waiting for more details and confirmation of any further reports in this regard.
This lockdown period has seen some efficient use of the OTT platform and now, we have a delight coming. Well, we are excited about this! Aren’t you?
