- IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians announced the inclusion of Australian fast bowler James Pattinson for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) replacing Lasith Malinga.
Mumbai Indians announced the inclusion of Australian fast bowler James Pattinson for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), replacing Lasith Malinga. The experienced Sri Lankan fast bowler will not be available this season due to personal reasons.
According to a media release issued by Mumbai Indians, “Lasith Malinga has requested to be unavailable in this session for personal reasons and he wants to stay with his family in Sri Lanka.” Pattinson will join the Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi later this week.
Malinga has been an important bowler for the Mumbai team and played an important role in the team’s campaign over the years. Malinga is the highest wicket-taker in the IPL, he has taken 170 wickets. The absence of Malinga is a major setback for the Mumbai Indians team.
MI Team Chief Akash Ambani welcomed Pattinson and gave his support to Malinga. He said, “James is the right player to fit with us and will be included in our fast bowlers’ available options at this time.
Malinga played the last T20 International for Sri Lanka during the home series against the West Indies in March this year.
In the final of the 2019 IPL, Malinga won the IPL title for the fourth time to Mumbai by taking a wicket with the last ball.
