Enjoy healthy hair this winter with just 3 steps.
Dry scalp, breakage, split ends and limp locks? Winter is such a harsh season that takes a heavy toll on our hair. The main reason is the dry air outside that sucks out moisture from our hair. This makes our hair look dull and lifeless. We freak out if we start shedding more hair. This happens with everyone and it’s a natural process. Sometimes medical conditions such as thyroid disease, alopecia areata and scalp infections like ringworm cause excessive hair loss. It’s better to get your tests done for early diagnosis.
The following three steps are enough to maintain healthy hair during the winter.
Step no. 1- Healthy diet
If you want healthy hair then it’s important to eat healthy. Applying hair products topically are effective only when you eat right. If you don’t have enough nutrients in your blood then all those hot oil massages would be ineffective. We don’t drink enough water in winter because we don’t feel thirsty. Consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables also decreases. There’s very little physical activity. These all habits make us very dull and decrease our immunity.
Maintaining a healthy diet in winter is crucial. Always start your day with a glass of warm water and try to consume more fruits and vegetables. Include eggs, paneer, fish and nuts in your diet. Make sure you get all the vital nutrients from your food. Get involved in some kind of physical activity to ensure good blood circulation. If you want you can take one vitamin C capsule every day.
Step no. 2- onion and garlic hair oil
Both onion and garlic are antimicrobial. They help in killing the germs and bacteria that cause scalp infections. If you suffer from dry, itchy and flaky scalp then you should follow this step regularly. Those who don’t have any dandruff issues can also follow this step. It will help in the prevention of scalp infections. Don’t forget the wise old saying that prevention is always better than cure.
Onion and garlic hair oil is very easy to prepare. Just make a paste of them and mix it with coconut oil in a small bowl. Heat the mixture carefully on a low flame for 5 minutes. Let it cool down a bit and then strain it. Apply this oil on your scalp first using your fingers and massage very gently. You don’t want any unnecessary breakage. Apply the remaining oil to your hair and comb properly to remove the tangles. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo or any shampoo that works for you.
Step no. 3- Hair rinse
This step can do wonders on your hair if you follow it regularly. You don’t necessarily have to use a conditioner if you use a good hair rinse. Hair rinse works exactly like a conditioner. It makes hair soft and shiny and prevents breakage and split ends.
Hair rinses are super easy to prepare. You just have to collect the required ingredients and boil them in water. The best ingredients to use in winter are hibiscus flowers, guava leaves and green tea or normal tea. You just have to boil these in half a litre of water for 20 minutes. Let it cool down. Filter it and use the infusion as a conditioner. You can apply it on your scalp and rinse your hair with it after you shampoo.
Never use the shampoo directly on your scalp. Take some hair rinse, dissolve the shampoo in it and then use it. Go for regular trims and haircuts. A good haircut will surely make your hair look healthy and beautiful. It will also prevent split ends. Those who have decent volume can go for haircuts like layer and feather cut. It’s important to get your hair trimmed once in every three months. Follow these steps to enjoy healthy hair this winter.
